Phil Jennerjahn for Mayor A leader you can trust
"If elected, I promise a crackdown on illegal immigration. I am the only candidate with the courage to say this publicly."

VOTER GUIDE

List of candidates for Mayor of Los Angeles, in correct ballot order, for the Primary election to be held on March 3rd, 2009.

1. Carlos Alvarez - Legal Assistant

Carlos Alvarez is listed on the ballot as a "legal assistant", but a better, more accurate description would be that he is a 22 year old political activist and street protester. He is often found at protest rallies screaming into a megaphone and inciting angry crowds.
He represents the Party for Socialism and Liberation. The PSL is so far to the left politically that they are very similar to Communists. One of his more disturbing campaign promises is to disarm the LAPD!

More of his frightening vision for our city can be seen at....

www.pslweb.org/site/DocServer/Carlos_For_Mayor_Half_Sheet.pdf?docID=2981

Carlos Alvarez has a political philosophy that is not based in reality, and therefore he is not a legitimate option for Los Angeles voters.

2. Gordon Turner - Deputy City Attorney

Gordon Turner is a Deputy City Attorney, but very little else is known about him. He left no contact information with the City Ethics Commission. As of 60 days before the election, web searches for him produced almost no information. Gordon Turner very recently set up a website with minimal information about himself and his campaign.

http://electgordonturner.com/

Turner states that he has been with the Office of the City Attorney for 14 years, but he only graduated from Southwestern University School of Law in 2002, so he has actually only been an attorney for part of his time in L.A. Gordon Turner has failed to attend several community events where all the Mayoral candidates have been invited.

Because he is not making a concerted effort, it is unlikely Gordon Turner will be a factor in this election.

3. Walter Moore - Lawyer

Walter Moore is an attorney who ran for Mayor in 2005 and was defeated soundly, receiving only 2.7 % of the vote. For some reason, this loss motivated him to run again in 2009. He has the professional qualifications to be Mayor and would probably do a competent job. The only thing stopping Walter Moore from being elected Mayor is ...Walter Moore.
He has the skills, but not the right personality or temperament. He is prone to launching into angry tirades that are filled with petty wisecracks and scathing sarcasm. His self-aggrandizing attitude implies that the voters are stupid if they don't choose to vote for him.

You can watch his angry tirades at....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zialP1kiS54

He also calls Los Angeles a "Third World Dump" on his website homepage. (That is a very odd strategy to attract Los Angeles voters!)

http://web.me.com/waltermoore/WalterMooreForMayor/Home.html

Walter Moore has the skills necessary to be Mayor, but may not have the personality or temperament needed to attract voters to his campaign.

4. Phil Jennerjahn - Entertainer

Phil Jennerjahn is an entertainer and Conservative Republican who believes that the current City government has exceeded the scope and limit of its legitimate power and has begun to do financial harm to its residents.

Phil Jennerjahn opposes the excessive increases in trash fees and parking tickets and believes that the City government is too large and needs to be reduced. If elected, Phil Jennerjahn promises to crack down on illegal immigration and to reduce the size of the City government (which hasn't laid off any employeees since 1983!).

Phil Jennerjahn is a political newcomer and would be a good alternative to voting for the current Mayor, but Phil is at a large name-recognition disadvantage to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in this election.

5. James Harris - Union Meat Packer

James Harris is listed on the ballot as a "Union Meat Packer", but this label is not entirely accurate. His profession is just a cover-up for his real career as a Socialist political activist. He travels from political hotspot to hotspot, taking to the streets and protesting the trendy cause of the moment. A website called "the Militant", says that James Harris lived in Atlanta and was the Socialist Workers Party candidate for President of the United States back in 2000. He even travelled to Cuba to support Communist farmers there. Read more about him...

http://www.themilitant.com/2000/6427/642751.html

Like Carlos Alvarez, James Harris has political ideologies that are too far to the left to be acceptable, and are not based in reality. He is not an acceptable choice to be Mayor of Los Angeles.

6. David Hernandez - Civic Community Leader

David Hernandez is a Vietnam veteran and long time political activist here in Los Angeles. He has spoken out on a variety of causes and seems to enjoy acting as a citizen watchdog over controversial projects. He has been involved in litigation against the City over political issues.
David has run for political office in Los Angeles several times, but has not yet been successful. Michael Higby did a nice story about David at his Mayor Sam blog.

mayorsam.blogspot.com/2008/11/meet-david-hernandez-candidate-for.html

David Hernandez has a new website that details his long list of community supporters.

http://www.dave4la.com/

David Hernandez has a record of community involvement that is unmatched by other candidates. He would probably be a good Mayor, but based on his previous election results, it is unlikely he can gain the support of enough voters to be a factor in this election.

7. Bruce Darian - Contractor

Bruce Darian is a contractor who ran for Mayor in 2005 and only received 512 votes, or 0.1 % of the votes cast.

Bruce Darian has been involved in a large amount of litigation involving both the State and Federal Courts stemming from a contractual dispute between several parties, including himself, who were all assigned contractors charged with rebuilding the Malibu Pier. His campaign seems to be motivated by a personal grudge he has against the State for some of his legal issues.

You can learn more about him at his website.

http://www.brucedarian.com/brucedarian/

Based on his previous results, it seems unlikely he will be a factor in this election.

8. Antonio Villaraigosa - Mayor of Los Angeles

Currently the Mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa is well known by most residents, but he is not particularly well liked. Villaraigosa received only 30.4% of the vote in the 2001 Primary Election, and only 33.1% of the vote in the 2005 Primary Election. This trend shows that voters in Los Angeles have a tendency to vote for other candidates, if given the choice.

Villaraigosa is currently suffering political fallout from the revelation of an embarrassing extramarital affair with television reporter Mirthala Salinas and the unethical behavior that clouded their relationship. The voters of Los Angeles lost a great amount of support and trust in their Mayor when this story broke.

He has also lost popularity due to the City recently deciding to triple the fees charged to citizens for trash collection and to quadruple the rates for parking meters.

His website is http://mayor.lacity.org/index.htm

Despite his problems, he is still a heavy favorite due to his well-funded campaign account and the support of Labor Union leaders who depend on him rewarding their support with expensive government contracts.

9. David "Zuma Dogg" Saltsburg - Community Advocate/Economist

David "Zuma Dogg" Saltsburg is an entertaining man who is originally from Cleveland, Ohio. He created the entertainer stage name/persona of "Zuma Dogg" -- a former Venice Beach merchandise vendor/rapper/public access television host.

"Zuma Dogg" has appeared on many talk radio programs and has even made it onto the national stage with apparances on the "Howard Stern" radio/TV program and ABC News' "Nightline" program.

"Zuma Dogg" has been described as a City Hall "gadfly" and has attended and spoken at hundreds of City Council meetings. The City Council members are extremely familiar with "Mr. Zuma Dogg" as they like to call him. They very clearly regret the city decision to interfere with Mr. Saltsburgs attempts to sell his self-promoting t-shirts at Venice Beach a few years ago.

David Saltsburg cannot be taken seriously as a candidate for Mayor.
For many years, he has concealed his real identity from the public.
His campaign is motivated by a personal grudge against the City for not allowing him to sell his self-promoting merchandise at Venice Beach.
His screaming tirades and non-stop self-promotion at City Hall are not examples of the leadership that Los Angeles needs at the Chief Executive position.

David "Zuma Dogg" Saltsburg is not an acceptable choice for Mayor.

10. Craig X Rubin

Craig X Rubin is listed as a "Pastor" on the ballot, but he is actually a pro-marijuana activist. His entire campaign seems to be based on a personal grudge that he has against the City for arresting and prosecuting him for Marijuana possession and distribution. He ran a "church" called Temple 420. Watch these videos to see why he can never be elected as Mayor.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyniWxj652w&feature=related

Craig Rubin has an arrest record for marijuana possession and distribution and is not an acceptable choice for Mayor.

SUMMARY

If voters are happy with Antonio Villaraigosa, then he will easily be re-elected. If they are not happy with the current Mayor, there are only three acceptable choices.

Only three men have shown the interest, the drive, the professional demeanor, and the responsibility necessary to be the leader of this city.

In Ballot order...

3. Walter Moore
4. Phil Jennerjahn
6. David Hernandez

Voters who are not happy with Antonio Villaraigoas need to vote for one of these three men on March 3rd to force a runoff election in May. If Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa receives over 50% of the vote on March 3rd, citizens of L.A. will be stuck with him as Mayor for four more years.
