Phil Jennerjahn for Mayor A leader you can trust

Phil Jennerjahn on Immigration

Illegal immigration is one of the top issues of my campaign.

If you watch the video on this website of the speech I gave to the City Council on December 10th, 2008, you will hear me say that illegal immigration is a triple threat to citizens in Los Angeles. It is a moral crisis, a legal crisis, and a financial crisis.

It is a moral crisis because as a country we are not being fair to all the people all over the world who have "played by the rules" and filled out their paperwork and done everything fairly and legally in their quest to become American citizens. These people deserve our respect and attention and fairness in the application of our laws. We cannot, as a country, continue to reward people who have violated our immigration laws.

That is a recipe for disaster.

Illegal immigration is a legal crisis, because the non-enforcement of our laws..ANY of our laws...leads to disrespect and contempt for the authorities who have created and enforce those laws. They are viewed as hypocrites and phonies. This makes our country appear to be unfair and unjust. When you have law enforcement actively ignoring or disobeying their own laws, then that becomes a recipe for disrespect of authority, chaos and anarchy, and an eventually breakdown of society.

As a nation, this is a risk we cannot afford to take.

The worst part of the illegal immigration saga is the unreasonable financial burden that it places on our taxpaying citizens. American taxpayers are being ripped off to the tune of BILLIONS of dollars for the housing, food, education and medical care of people who are not deserving citizens of the United States. We are being forced to foot the bill for millions of people who do not have the legal right to be here. Decades of liberal, tolerant policies towards illegal immigration have left many cities and states on the verge of financial bankruptcy.

This is insanity, and it needs to stop.

All you need to do to stop it here in Los Angeles is to vote for Phil Jennerjahn on March 3rd.

Our current Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is a guilty party in this drama. He is a man who is actually an enabler. A man who bizarrely refuses to acknowledge that there even is a problem, and refuses to take any actions to stop the process. On this issue, he can clearly be described as a hypocrite. By his behavior, this Mayor actually ENCOURAGES illegal immigration. I can't stand by and allow him to continue these destructive policies.

We can't afford to have elected leaders like this.

We need to remove him from power.
His attitude jeopardizes our nations safety and security.
He is part of the problem, not part of the solution.

If elected Mayor, I promise a crackdown on illegal immigration.
I will abolish Special Order 40 , which prevents our police officers from even ASKING if someone is here in this country legally.
I will abolish the Consent Decree, and allow our officers to stop and arrest criminals.
I will abolish the current status that L.A. has as a "Sanctuary City".
This is against the State law and our penal codes.
I will declare L.A. to be an "Enforcement City" where ALL laws enforced.
Not just ones that are politically popular.

I want to be clear with voters about one thing.

I DO NOT do these things out of any sense of hatred or racial animosity.
Unlike one other candidate for Mayor, I do NOT try to incite my followers using anger or fear. This is unacceptable behavior.
Unlike that other candidate for Mayor, I am not afraid of people who have come here from Mexico.
I have no problem with speaking Spanish to Spanish-speaking citizens here in L.A.

I understand why immigrants come here. They come for opportunity.
I know many people who have come here as immigrants.
I like them personally and I think L.A. is better for their presence.
However, anyone who comes here has to have our country's permission. It is as simple as that.

America is a big-hearted and generous country, and we CAN accept more immigrants in the future, we just can't accept everyone who would like to move here. We just don't have the ability to accommodate those types of numbers. It is a simple matter of math and of money.

This is my position on illegal immigration, and it will not change.
